Description

Originally built in 1794, The Old Schoolhouse has been beautifully restored to provide an enchanting self-catering holiday cottage combining 18th century character with 21st century style and comfort. The Old Schoolhouse is situated close to the sparkling Meggat Water which flows into the River Esk, and is surrounded by some of the finest upland scenery in Southern Scotland. The original local stone and slate roof construction of the cottage has been retained, while the interior has been thoughtfully converted to provide accommodation of an exceptionally high standard.

The spacious kitchen/dining area is well-equipped with all appliances fully integrated within hand-crafted units and solid beech worktops. The kitchen leads into the south facing sitting room which is furnished with large comfortable chairs around a traditional open log fire, and solid oak furniture. There is a flat screen television, DVD player and good selection of DVDs. Books, maps and leaflets of local places of interest are provided. Most guests appreciate that there is no internet and no mobile phone reception. A landline phone is provided for the use of guests.

A passage leads from the kitchen area to two warm double bedrooms and the stone-tiled wet room. There is an additional cloakroom and small utility room. The emphasis is on comfort, with quality soft furnishings, bed linen and luxurious towels provided. There are fitted carpets and tiled floors throughout. Framed prints on the walls are by local artists.

The parking area and garden are enclosed and there is a paved sitting area with garden furniture. Views from the cottage are of rolling unspoilt hills and grazing sheep.

Customer Comments

"Wow! What an amazing place. Opening the curtains in the morning is like unveiling God’s masterpiece.

The Old Schoolhouse at Glendinning is the perfect retreat. The cottage is kitted out to the highest standard and has a real homely feel. The open fire makes the living room feel cosy especially in the colder months. I adored my stay at the Old Schoolhouse and my many stays at Jamestown just down the river. I cannot wait to return again. This place is perfect for those who want to disconnect from the outside world for a while and just relax.
